Apply for a NATE bursary towards IFTE Conference


The next conference of the International Federation for the Teaching of English (of which NATE is a member) will take place at the University of Auckland in New Zealand on 18th-21st April, 2011.


NATE is offering support of up to £500 to a select number of our members to assist them in attending this conference.  


Titled ‘Much Ado About English’, the conference will have four key strands: 
• Literacies and Literatures: Creative possibilities
• Diversity and voice: Inclusion and representation
• English Teachers @ Work: Tensions, pressures, opportunities
• New Technologies, New Practices

Keynote speakers include:

Pam Grossman (Nomellini-Olivier Professor of Education at the Stanford University School of Education), Stuart McNaughton (Professor of Education at the University of Auckland and Director of the Woolf Fisher Research Centre) Barbara Comber (Researcher, Centre for Studies in Literacy, Policy and Learning Cultures in the Hawke Research Institute at the University of South Australia), Peter Freebody (Professorial Research Fellow at The University of Sydney) and Glenn Colquhoun(poet and children's writer).

The UK will be represented Debra Myhill (Professor of Education at the University of Exeter).

And, of course, there will be a programme of workshops and seminars too.  A Call for Papers is currently out for this conference, with a deadline of 1st October.
