Guided Reading Packs

These packs provide ideal, value-for-money ideas, notes and resources for the designated texts.

Each pack includes:

  • an introduction to the specific author, including notes on biography, themes and style.
  • six sample guided reading session plans
  • detailed guidance for two of the guided reading sessions
  • a 'Chapter strand matrix' which covers every chapter of the relevant book , analyses key points of content, style and language to provide all the key points for further guided reading sessions, wherever in the book you may be.
  • Some exercises and ideas refer back to worksheets and guidance in the 'Introduction and Resources' pack.

The 'Introduction and Resources' pack (with ringbinder to collect specific titles) contains a selection of photocopiable worksheets and prompt sheets which you will find invaluable for use in lots of other areas. The Introduction is a clearly written description of the principles of guided reading and offers a down-to-earth approach for employing them in your classroom. The 'difficult' questions (e.g. 'What do we do with the rest of the class?) are addressed and a method proposed which enables teachers quickly to establish guided reading as a routine activity.

An essential resource for all teachers of students aged 10-14
