How does NATE benefit from the link with Amazon?

NATE is an Amazon Associate - this means that everything that is bought by following an Amazon link from the NATE site earns NATE a referral fee. This process is automatic - you simply complete your purchase as normal.

Why has NATE chosen to link with Amazon rather than another online retailer?

Amazon has a very wide range of goods on sale, from books to computers, from CDs to hedge trimmers. You can also buy new and second hand items from its Market Place sellers. Many NATE members already buy from Amazon, so this arrangement means they can help NATE without changing their shopping habits. Reports from members who have used the Associates programme confirm that the system is straightforward and profitable.

Do I need to be a NATE member for NATE to benefit?

No: anyone who buys from Amazon through the NATE site benefits NATE. All you need is an Amazon account - NATE does not supply Amazon with any details of members or website visitors.

Does shopping at Amazon through NATE cost anything extra?

No: you pay the displayed price, whether you buy from Amazon or from one of their Market Place suppliers. As usual, you should be aware of the delivery charge, which will be shown before you confirm your purchase - though you can often reduce or eliminate the charge by selecting 'super saver delivery'.

Does this mean NATE knows what I'm buying?

No: you are buying from Amazon, not NATE. Data protection law forbids Amazon from divulging any details about its customers. Although Amazon Associates can see what items have been purchased, they have no way of knowing who has bought them.

What if I have a problem or want to return an item?

All purchases are with Amazon, so you should contact the Amazon customer service department if you have a query. We have chosen to link with Amazon because we are satisfied that they provide good value and reliable service.

What about my local bookshop?

We would encourage you to support your local bookshop if you can. However, you may live some distance from a good bookshop, the stock may be limited - or the book you want out of print. Amazon can deliver both new and second-hand books to your door - and in addition you can buy a wide range of other goods.

Do I have to shop via the NATE site for NATE to benefit?

Yes: when you go to Amazon via the NATE site, whether by using the search box or the direct link, Amazon recognises the special code that ensures NATE is credited with any purchases you make. If you buy several items in the same session on the Amazon site after using the NATE link, NATE receives the fees for all your purchases. However, if you go away from Amazon then return to shop there later without using the NATE link, we won't benefit, so please always use the NATE link when you shop at Amazon.

Should I buy NATE books from Amazon now, instead of from NATE?

No: please still use the NATE bookshop for our own publications. It is more beneficial for NATE to supply its own stock directly to you. Because NATE is a small publisher, you may also find that Amazon charges an additional fee for supplying our books.
