The NATE Initial Teacher Education Conference, organised by the National Association for the Teaching of English, is an annual event dedicated to the development of English teacher education. It brings together teachers, ITE leads, mentors, trainees and researchers to explore key issues shaping the preparation of new teachers of English. Each year the conference focuses on a theme central to subject pedagogy and curriculum, creating space for informed discussion about research, classroom practice and the distinctive nature of English as a discipline. Through keynote talks and practitioner-led sessions, the conference promotes critical reflection, professional dialogue and collaboration across schools and universities, supporting those involved in initial teacher education to strengthen both subject knowledge and pedagogical understanding.

This year’s theme is ‘Becoming an English Teacher: exploring the challenges, opportunities, and everyday realities in a changing educational landscape’. Talks will explore AI use, the importance of creativity, identity and more.
